Beginning Sewing Class
Starting January 2025 we will starting a sample quilt using a book. They will be 6 inch blocks and we should be able to finish it in 6 months. You can join this class at anytime but we will not be going back to the beginning.
Several students have built up skills and are ready to move on to more challenging skills.
Class will start on time at 9:00 each month and be finished at 12:00. The store opens at 8:30 and you are welcome to get here and set up in time to start the class.
Note pads and pen or pencils will be helpful for note taking.
Make sure your machine is running properly before class, and you have plenty of bobbins wound, and plenty of thread ready.
You will need to purchase a book and fabric for your quilt, You can purchase fabric here at the store or bring from home.

You do not need to know HOW to sew to take this class. It is for the true beginner. You are welcome to take the class to increase your knowledge. If you learned to sew watching YouTube, this may be a good class for you. If you want to improve your skills on rulers, cutting fabric using a rotary cutter, sewing different blocks then this is a class for you.

You must have a working sewing machine. One will NOT be provided in the class.
You will need a sewing box with sewing tools, rulers, rotary cutter, thread, needles, bobbins, scissors, both large and small. Other items as needed.
These can be purchased at the shop or at other stores.

Instructor Bio:
Barbara has been sewing since high school, she in now in her silver years. So more than a couple of years. She has made clothing, purses, quilts, wall hangings, table runners, and various other cloth items. Her love of sewing pushed her to the next level, and she started Longarm quilting 16 years ago. After her first retirement she began teaching sewing classes at her church with as many as 12 students at a time. She has gone back to work at Friends Around the Block and is excited to share her knowledge with those who want to learn to sew.
